In our desire for mature spirituality,  we often become preoccupied with “self.”  Even as believers, we can fall into the trap of thinking our personal growth is independent of our relationships with others.  Jesus showed and taught us otherwise.  The heart of Christianity is knowing and loving God, and out of that resource and relationship, living as servants of others in the power of the Spirit according to the example of Christ. The world sees power as a way to gain control over others. But Jesus, who has all power and authority in heaven and earth, showed us how to serve others.  In that light, being a servant stops us from focusing on ourselves and keeps us aware of the needs of others.

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people,- Ephesians 6:7
