Jesus. Saves. Sinners.
Just like us.

 Jesus:

He is the eternal Son of God, second person of the Trinity, fully human and fully divine.
He was born (incarnation) in ancient Israel of the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life, earning the right to represent humanity before God.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.

“3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,” Hebrews 1:3 (ESV)

Saves.

On the cross, Jesus paid the price for the sins we have committed, satisfying God’s perfect justice. All those who trust in Christ as their Savior have been forgiven, adopted, and given Christ’s perfect record of righteousness.
God’s wrath was poured out on Christ for all who will humbly repent and believe that Jesus accomplished this for them. We have been rescued, redeemed, saved.

“9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (ESV)

Sinners.

That us. People. Folks who are in need of forgiveness because we know that we are self-centered, unkind, ignoring God and our neighbor. In fact, the Bible says that, in our hearts, we are God’s enemies.

That sounds like bad news. And it is…except for the fact that this is exactly who Jesus came to rescue.

“8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (ESV)

It is interesting that when the folks who saw themselves as living good lives complained that Jesus was spending too much time with obvious sinners, His reply was: “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Good news for sinners!

Just like us.

The Church is described as the people of God, Christ’s beloved Bride, His body.
When He saves us, He calls us into relationship with God, and with each other.
And we never forget that He is saving us from ourselves.
Together, we walk the life of repentance and faith.
